Abandoned Malls of the Midwest

It’s my ’91 Vision: The Mall is Dead.

“Let’s all have another orange julius. Thick syrup standing in lines. The malls are the soon to be ghost towns. Well, so long, farewell, goodbye.” -Modest Mouse, Teeth Like God’s Shoeshine.

This one is the Charlestown Mall, right down the road from my house. Even the web site is a ghost town: http://www.charlestownemall.com/

And yes, the stores featured in the 1998-esque opening video are all of the stores left in the hulking shell. It is a pleasant place for the kids to run around when the weather is bad, but the Cinnabon is long gone.

Jong Ho Ji: Tire Artist

Q: Can you make me a realistic minotaur sculpture out of old tires?

A: No, but I ran across someone who can.

Hello world.

Welcome to The NPRneck, a peanut butter cup of Big City and the Great Outdoors.

Listening to This American Life while flathead catfishing one night it occurred to me that I stood at a peculiar intersection. That’s when The NPRneck was born. My Name is Sam Bennett and I’m an NPRneck.

I maintain both a sharp axe and a public library card. I am equally at home in Shanghai as I am in the Sipsey Wilderness. I also make stuff. Feel free to say hello on Twitter.
